Earthrise — Design for a Living Planet / Residence Urgency Toolkit
EXHIBITION
EVENTS
For the residence of Earthrise 25 – Design for a Living Planet we have selected, together with the curator Vera Sacchetti, the designer Alessandra Pandolfi, with the project Urgency Toolkit: a work that facilitates the collective construction of new norms for community life.
During the two months of residence in Turin, Pandolfi developed the project in close collaboration with the San Salvario Neighborhood House, a multicultural space and social design laboratory. Here he experimented with the local community in a co-design process that led to the definition and construction of theUrgency Toolkit: a replicable model adaptable to different contexts, capable of activating shared decisions and civic transformation processes.
The toolkit uses lightweight, accessible materials, designed to combine environmental sustainability and democratic participation. Each stage of the process is accompanied by tangible tools and instructions that allow anyone to implement it within their community—from an apartment building to an association, from a neighborhood to a practice or interest group.
The research path was enriched by the comparison with cultural realities and institutions such as the National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento and the Diffused Museum of the Resistance, and with mentors Michael Kaethler (design sociologist), Irene Angenica (independent curator and cultural mediator) and Rebecca Moccia (transdisciplinary artist).
The outcome of the residency, carried out in collaboration with Pier Giuseppe Giorcelli, will be presented to the public with the installation Urgency Toolkit, in opening Wednesday, October 29th at 7:00 PM and can be visited free of charge until November 2, 2025.
The project complete the exhibition Where to, from here? of the project Earthrise 25, edited by Vera Sacchetti, which explores the profound – often invisible – connection between design and democracy, and the role that design can play in making governance systems more inclusive, accessible and shared, is open until December 5, 2025.
