Ecology is social, in practice

“Most of our ecological problems have their roots in social problems” – Murray Bookchin

Investigating the design as a lever for change towards a more equitable and ecological society we set our sights on thesocial ecology, a radical philosophy that links ecological themes with political and social ones, ranging from architecture to economics, from political and social theory to anthropology, up to the natural sciences.

The 10 projects and practices of designers and architects presented in the exhibition Ecology is social, in practice They develop through collective actions – from small artisan communities to widespread civic participation – and arise from reflections on the most urgent social issues emerged in relation to the global environmental crisis: the relationship between migrations and climate change, the birth of Sacrificial zones, i ecological costs of the industry of constructions, the accumulation of plastics in the environment, The reuse of construction waste, the loss of biodiversity, the land care in metropolitan and territorial contexts, the exploitation of scarce natural resources.

The exhibition Ecology is social, in practice is part of Earthrise 24, the second edition of Earthrise – Design for a Living Planet, the project that the Circolo del Design dedicates to relationship between design and environmental sustainability, contributing to articulate possible answers and scenarios and fuel collective and shared dialogues.
