Presented as a typographic atlas, the exhibition ECAL A Typographic Atlas It is structured around a unique indexing approach. This system is translated into a modular display designed by Adrien Rovero. Alphabetical entries and numerical coordinates form a framework that invites visitors to navigate a typographical landscape.
La tipografia è trattata come una pratica visiva, culturale e linguistica, dalle forme sperimentali alle famiglie funzionali e ai progetti multiscript, incoraggiandoci a riconsiderare il modo in cui il carattere tipografico media la comunicazione quotidiana
The Design Circle inaugurates the exhibition itinerary of ECAL A Typographic Atlas, which will continue in the following international locations:
Through contributions from students and designers, the talk explores the design process behind the typefaces on display, highlighting methods, formats, and approaches to contemporary typographic practice.
● Introduction of Alexis Georgacopoulos, Director of ECAL, Matthieu Cortat Roller, Head of ECAL Master Type Design and Davide Tomatis, Archivio Tipografico.
● Interventions by Giulia Zanzarella, Saliù Baldé, Claudio Bolzonello, Orlando Brunner and Elena Calò.
ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne
ECAL is considered one of the most influential art and design schools in the world. Its reputation is confirmed by the success of its graduates, numerous press articles and awards, collaborations with major brands and institutions, and exhibitions hosted in prestigious venues.
In keeping with strong Swiss tradition, the Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design integrates typography, image, publishing, and identity through an educational approach centered on experimentation and concrete projects. Building on this foundation, the Master's degree in Type Design, unique in Switzerland, offers in-depth specialization in typeface design and typographic research, combining design, theory, and digital innovation.
Together, these two paths embody ECAL's excellence in contemporary visual design.
